Laws for Landlords in Alberta

Landlord-tenant law is a mixture of laws made by legislatures (statute law) and laws made from decisions of judges in individual cases over the centuries (case or common law). This site explains the law as it applies to renting residential property in Alberta.

NEW changes to the Residential Tenancies Act took effect on October 1, 2011. There are changes that effect the process of a landlord regaining possession of the rental property. For more information, see Service Alberta's information booklet: "Notice of Legislative Changes and What that Means for You."
