Serving a Landlord

You can be served at the address where rent is paid or at the address stated in the Notice of Landlord that you provided at the beginning of the tenancy.

If the landlord is a corporation or co-operative, service can be carried out in the way required by the organization's governing statute:

  • For organizations incorporated under the Co-operatives Act, notice can be served or sent to the registered office.

  • For organizations incorporated under the Alberta Companies Act, notice can be served or sent to the registered office or served on any director, manager or other office of the company.

  • For organizations incorporated under the Alberta Business Corporations Act, notice can be served or sent to the registered office or sent to the designated post office box for mail.

If a tenant cannot serve you personally or by registered or certified mail, he can send a notice electronically where he knows that a printed copy will be received at your address (fax).

The registered office of a corporation can be found by doing a search at an authorized Alberta Registry agent (to find an Alberta Registry agent see http://governmentservices.gov.ab.ca/ra/ran.cfm).
