The Residential Tenancies Act of Alberta gives details about when a landlord can make a tenant move out of a rented home. The lease agreement will provide additional information about the type of lease the tenant has. This will determine how and when you can ask a tenant to leave.

A tenancy agreement can be ended in a variety of ways. These ways can be classified into two groups:

When a landlord or tenant wishes to end the tenancy agreement and is not alleging that the other party is at fault in any way.
When a landlord or tenant wishes to end the tenancy agreement because it is alleged that the other party is at fault in some way.

This section deals only with the situation when a tenancy agreement is ended where no fault is being alleged. If you are in a situation where you want to evict your tenant for being at fault in some way, or you want to end the tenancy because you feel your tenant is at fault, you need to refer to the “Disputes” section.
