Responsibility for Rent

Under the Residential Tenancies Act, tenants have an obligation to pay the rent when due. 

A tenant includes anyone who you have allowed to live in the residence. Even if someone did not sign a tenancy agreement, that person has an obligation to pay rent. If a roommate who signed the agreement leaves the property, the remaining tenant still has the obligation to pay the whole amount of the rent.
