Landlord Obligations

The rules that a landlord must follow fall into two groups:

  1. The rules that are implied by law, even if the agreement between you and your tenant says something different. The law that sets out these rules in Alberta is the Residential Tenancies Act.

  2. The rules that you and your tenant agree to in the lease or tenancy agreement. In addition to the Residential Tenancies Act, there may be many other acts and regulations that create obligations.
